about

Atsuko and blogs go back. Xanga may have even been my personality in junior high. St. Paul Pioneer Press made it official when they interviewed 14-year old me (and my mom) about this new blog technology and how it might be harming the youth (The article isn’t even hosted on their website anymore, but I will find it, gimme a sec).

Despite a short stint with LiveJournal around 06-07 where I was mostly a lurker anyway, Myspace completely took over and I spent hours putting my html customization skills to use.

For me, blogging fell to the wayside with ✨ social media ✨. I’m not counting the Tumblr days of 08-11, because does trying to out-curate a pretentious hipster feed really count as blogging? Though, there was that amazing feeling when you do nail-bitingly post your own stuff and it gets 30 reposts by people you don’t follow and you might just be on the brink of being a Tumblr It Girl.

I dropped Tumblr as Instagram fulfilled that creative outlet, while I applied Valencia or Amaro (but never Kelvin) to everyday photos. Just post a picture as you took it and post as many times as you pleased (who else unlocked the Overshare badge on FourSquare?) Somewhere over a decade that morphed into wondering if a photo was good enough, a caption clever enough, maybe I’ll be cooler if all my photos are letterboxed?

A picture and 10 words never could capture the daily monotonous details anyway, so, 13 years and change after my first Instagram post and 22 years since Xanga, welcome (back) to my blog!
